Yoga can improve the immunity of the body for the purpose of prevention of diseases. Asanas, bandhas, mudras, pranayama, and meditation can fortify the immune system. The yogic techniques help in the prevention and treatment of cancer. The cancerous cell is a non-self cell and so it behaves like an antigen.
Even without the consciousness of the patient who regularly practices yoga, the immune system of the body destroys the cancer cell at the very early stage. The individual, with body, mind, and self, lives holistically. The bone marrow, the thymus, and whole lymphatic system are triggered to fight infection and cancerous growth.
The defense department of the body lunges a three-pronged attack on the invading microbes.
- It recruits more soldiers like the neutrophils, the monocytes, and the macrophages.
- It gears up the cell-mediated immunity through the T-lymphocytes.
- It strengthens the antibody-mediated (humoral) immunity through the B-lymphocytes.
For these functions, a huge demand is made on the enhanced supply of protective nutrients such as quality proteins, vitamins, and minerals. Hence the yogic diet should be balanced and rich in protective nutrients and more importantly vegetarian.
You may practice yoga-nidra for the prevention as well as the treatment of infectious diseases, and also for the prevention and treatment of malignant tumors. The following sankalpa is suggested.
“My immune system, fight the infection/ cancer, protects the body.”
