How Pancreas Works
Before getting into the process of natural treatment of diabetes lets first discuss how the pancreas works. The Pancreas is a dual gland, situated in the abdominal cavity. It consists of a broad head, a body, and a narrow tail. The head lies in the curve of the duodenum and the body behind the stomach. It is both exocrine (with duct) and endocrine (without duct). The exocrine part secretes digestive juices which are carried through the pancreatic duct into the small intestine.
Distributed throughout the gland are groups of specialized cells like islands. These are the pancreatic islets (of Langerhans). These islets do not have ducts. The hormones they secrete diffuse directly into the blood. All the islets combinedly constitute the endocrine pancreas.
The pancreatic islets contain three main types of cells, namely, alpha cells that secrete glucagon, beta cells that secrete insulin, and delta cells that secrete somatostatin. Glucagon increases blood glucose levels and insulin reduces them. Diabetes mellitus is due to deficiency or absence of insulin or rarely to impairment of insulin activity (insulin resistance). Insulin acts on the cell membranes. It increases the permeability of the cell membrane to glucose.
Natural Treatment of Diabetes
Get yourself treated by the doctor who may decide to prescribe oral drugs or insulin injection. Control your diet. Do exercise regularly. In addition, you may do Yoga for the treatment of diabetes. Yoga-Nidra is one of the many techniques you are to follow. Depending upon the conditions, you may dispense with medicinal treatment or lower the dose, to be decided by your doctor. The following sankalpa is recommended for yoga-nidra.
“The islet cells of my pancreas, secrete enough insulin, not more, not less. My cell membranes, allow glucose to pass through.”
